Methoxsalen is a photosensitizing agent. 8-MOP is a furocoumarin produced by a number of plants. It is used as a sensitizer in combination with UVA-light. The substance intercalates between base pairs in the DNA molecule. Absorption of photons in the UVA range then results in cross-links.
